Childhood Heroes: Jim Brown. He was the first one I remember seeing and saying Wow. Johnny Bench. In baseball.
Nickname: Whitey. Had it growing up. Never left me. As a youth my hair was white. I mean WHITE. My dad used to say, Son, don’t get in trouble, they’ll be able to find you.
Early Football Memory: The first pass I ever threw in football. In fifth grade. I threw a bomb to the coach’s son for a touchdown, probably 40-45 yards.
Favorite Movies: Cool Hand Luke. Field Of Dreams.
Favorite TV Shows: The Andy Griffith Show, M*A*S*H.
Musical Tastes: Soft rock, Huey Lewis, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band – back in college. I’m past the stage of listening to a lot of music.
Best Books Read: John Grisham books. Biographical and history books. Harry Truman’s biography.
Favorite Non Football Sports To Watch: Golf. I do love to watch golf on TV. Tournament basketball, college and pro.
First Car: 1979 maroon Chevrolet Caprice I got it when I got drafted. I washed it about every other day for the first month. Then that was it.
Greatest Sports Moment: Playing first game in the League versus Steelers in 1979 (pre-season). Winning the Super Bowl (1986 vs. Denver). Just the thoughts that come to your head – about my family and how happy everybody was.
Closest Giants Friends: Phil McConkey. Brad Benson. Tony Galbreath. Maurice Carthon.
Funniest Giants: Ken Daniel. Lamar Leachman – the Archie Bunker of the 90s.
Toughest Competitors: LT. Ronnie Lott. The toughest. I just know from what I’ve seen, what I know, what I’ve heard, what I’ve seen on film. It just keeps adding on. I had a chance to meet Michael Jordan. I can see that in him also.
Interesting Fact: Phil has twice qualified for the NJ State Amateur Golf Tournament.
Hobbies: Golf, physical activities with my family. Doing things like shooting hoops, playing tennis with my wife and kids. A lot of whiffle ball in the backyard.
First Job: Paperboy for Louisville Courier-Journal.
College: Morehead State.
